Eh, it can be a little lonely. But, I've made some friends so it's all good.

As for what you do in your spare time. Some take up jobs around the village to fill the time. But, with no money it's more like volunteer work. Others take up projects. It's pretty much a free for all.

Just don't set the village on fire. It's not that free.
